respect
noun
3. esteem for or a sense of the worth or excellence of a person, a personal quality or ability, or something considered as a manifestation of a personal quality or ability.
I hate when people are like "I'm older, so you have to respect me!" Respect has to be earned (or kept). Of course, by default I'll respect someone older than me. Actually, I'll respect everyone by default. But as long as you show that you're not worth respecting that's it- don't use your age as a justification, because it just shows how mature you are.

How is being respectful associated when there's a practical argument/ logic (that everyone gets except you) going on? You have no case here seriously. But that's beside the point. The point is respect has nothing to do with age or hierarchy- it's a given, until it's not.
